Remediation

Remediation is the recommended treatment for children with Specific Learning Disorders (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, language delays). This intervention builds fundamental skills and brain connections, bringing students to where they need to be.

While tutoring helps children manage current homework, remediation goes back to basics so that no child gets left behind.

Based on the most up-to-date research and expert recommendations – and uniquely guided by a licensed neuropsychologist – our remediation specialists use empirically validated interventions tailored to the profile and needs of each child. These methods, many based on the Orton-Gillingham approach (e.g., LIPS, Raconte-moi les sons, Lively Letters, Spire) use a scaffolding approach to build the specific skills your child needs. Such interventions may not just lead to better academic performance – when administered accurately and intensively, they can actually foster measurable changes in the brain, termed “neuroplasticity.” Note that computerized interventions, while acceptable to supplement instruction, are not empirically proven to have the benefits of intensive remediation.

Reading skills, even in children with dyslexia, can definitely improve at any age. However, the earlier we intervene, the better the outcome. Before third grade, children are learning to read; from grade three on, they are reading to learn. Our goal is to help every child learn to read and write to their full and true potential!

Our remediation specialists work in person or remotely. Since remediation should ideally be done in the mornings or early afternoon, when the brain is freshest, we offer services as early as 6:30 a.m. as well as on weekends.

Note that fees for remediation may be eligible for income tax deductions.
