Assessment
The goal of assessment is to better understand an individual’s strengths and challenges, so we can capitalize on the former and bolster the latter. We also seek to enhance self-understanding as well as the understanding of important people in our lives, such as parents, teachers, partners and colleagues.
Psychological and neuropsychological assessments provide a detailed picture of cognitive strengths and challenges, including verbal and non-verbal reasoning, memory, executive functions (e.g., attention, impulse control, organization, time management), language, personality and mood. With this information, we can build on strengths and build up challenges, allowing a more successful path to school, work or life in general. In addition, when beneficial, we can confirm diagnoses of learning disabilities (Specific Learning Disorders), ADHD, autism, anxiety and depressive disorders, personality disorders, and so on.
Psychoeducational assessments provide an in-depth look at the ability to learn. The aim is to generate a precise understanding of an individual’s specific learning profile, then to identify distinct strategies and interventions based on that profile. Our comprehensive assessments help family members as well as professionals (e.g. doctors, occupational therapists, speech therapists, teachers) find the essential information needed to make maximum use of the individual’s strengths, adapt their educational approach and discern the best strategies for meeting any challenges.
For students, certain diagnoses may also allow them to study in their preferred language, obtain additional resources, and/or have access to an adapted academic environment. Those with multiple or significant challenges may be eligible for disability tax credits and assistive technology (e.g. computer, specialized software).
Note that evaluations may be eligible for private insurance as well as income tax deductions.
